Meet Vanessa, a Speech-Language Pathologist with the McKibben & Monte team in Columbus. Vanessa earned her Master of Health Science in Communication Disorders from Governors State University and her Bachelor of Science from Purdue University in West Lafayette. She specializes in working with infants, toddlers, and school-aged children, helping them develop the essential communication skills needed for success at every stage.

Vanessa’s favorite part of being a therapist is getting to know children and their families on a personal level. She finds it deeply rewarding to help families set meaningful goals, work together to achieve them, and ultimately celebrate progress that often exceeds expectations. Inspired by her love of children, she pursued speech therapy as a career that blends her passion for connection with her commitment to making a difference.

When beginning therapy with a new child, Vanessa focuses on building rapport and discovering what motivates them. She also places high importance on understanding parents’ and caregivers’ expectations, ensuring that therapy is aligned with family goals and values. This collaborative approach creates a supportive environment where children can thrive.

Her favorite children’s books are the Elephant and Piggie series by Mo Willems, and as a child she loved Where the Sidewalk Ends by Shel Silverstein. Outside of her work, Vanessa enjoys spending time with her husband and their four children. She treasures pizza nights, boating with her family, and finds happiness in exercising, reading, and traveling.
