Speech Language Pathologist

Meet Emily.

Emily Champion, M.A., CCC-SLP, is a Speech-Language Pathologist with the McKibben & Monte team. She earned her Master’s degree in Speech Pathology and Audiology from Western Michigan University and is dedicated to helping children build the communication skills they need to succeed both in and out of the classroom. Her areas of expertise include articulation, expressive and receptive language delays, autism-related communication differences, phonological disorders, stuttering, and academic language development.

Emily’s favorite part of being a therapist is helping children discover confidence in their ability to communicate. She loves watching children grow from hesitant communicators into confident individuals who can express their thoughts, needs, and personalities more effectively. For Emily, some of the most rewarding moments are the small victories that eventually become major milestones, and she treasures the opportunity to celebrate those successes alongside the children and families she serves.

Her passion for speech-language pathology stems from a desire to help children and a deep appreciation for the role communication plays in every aspect of life. She was drawn to the profession because it combines meaningful relationships, problem-solving, and the ability to make a lasting impact on a child’s future. Emily understands that communication influences everything from academic achievement to social connections and self-confidence, making her work both meaningful and rewarding.

When beginning with a new child, Emily focuses on creating a safe, supportive environment where trust can flourish. She takes time to learn about each child’s interests, strengths, and personality, recognizing that strong relationships form the foundation for meaningful progress. By building rapport and tailoring therapy to what motivates each child, she helps create engaging sessions that foster both learning and confidence.

Emily is particularly passionate about helping children find their voice and develop the skills necessary to communicate effectively in everyday situations. Whether supporting speech sound production, language development, fluency, literacy skills, or social communication, she approaches every child with patience, encouragement, and a strengths-based mindset. Her favorite children’s book is Goodnight Moon by Margaret Wise Brown.

Outside of therapy, Emily values the connections she builds with families and the opportunity to be part of each child’s journey. Her compassionate approach, commitment to individualized care, and enthusiasm for celebrating progress make her a trusted partner for families and a valued member of the McKibben & Monte team.
