Meet Ellen, an Occupational Therapist with the McKibben & Monte team in Columbus. Ellen earned her Bachelor of Science in Human Development and Family Science from The Ohio State University and went on to complete her Doctorate in Occupational Therapy at Northern Arizona University. She specializes in sensory integration, bringing both expertise and creativity to every child she works with.
Ellen’s favorite part of being a therapist is getting to know each patient as an individual and working alongside them to overcome barriers so they can reach their highest potential and find success in daily life. Inspired by her desire to help others while also incorporating creativity into her career, Ellen found occupational therapy to be the perfect path.
Her therapeutic approach is child-led—following each child’s cues and body language to guide the session. Ellen uses a strength-based model, helping children overcome challenges by building on their natural abilities. This personalized, encouraging approach allows kids to grow with confidence while breaking down barriers in a supportive environment.
Ellen is inspired by the words of Fred Rogers: “There are three ways to ultimate success: The first way is to be kind. The second way is to be kind. The third way is to be kind.” This philosophy resonates strongly in her work and her interactions with families.
When she’s not working, Ellen enjoys life on her homestead—caring for her cows and tending her garden. She also loves taking nature walks and cheering on Ohio State football. With her compassionate spirit, creativity, and dedication, Ellen is a valued member of the McKibben & Monte team.
Understanding how critical positive feedback is to a developing child, Ellen bases her therapy sessions around strength building – improving a child’s deficits by building on their strengths to break down barriers.
When she’s not at work, Ellen spends time in nature – taking walks and tending to her homestead (complete with cows and a garden).
