Two of Sara’s younger sisters have Down Syndrome. One sister is very verbal, while the other has apraxia of speech, uses a communication device, and has complex needs. Her younger brothers both also have IEPs related to their articulation needs. She watched her siblings interact with their speech therapists regularly and witnessed the huge impacts they had on her family’s life, which became her inspiration to become a therapist.
Sara’s favorite part of being a therapist is supporting children in making meaningful connections through communication. Her areas of special interest include cultural and linguistic diversity, augmentative and alternative communication (AAC), and neurodiversity affirming therapy.
While not working, Sara enjoys music, sunsets, and her cat. And her favorite family activity is taking vacations to St. Augustine, Florida.
