Meet Susan, a Speech-Language Pathologist with the McKibben & Monte team in Columbus. Susan earned both her Master of Science in Speech Language Pathology and her Bachelor of Science in Speech Language Pathology and Audiology from West Virginia University. With a specialty in language development, she is passionate about helping children build the communication skills they need to thrive at home, in school, and in their communities.

Susan’s favorite part of being a therapist is the opportunity to meet new people and get to know children and their families on a personal level. She was first inspired to pursue the field in high school, after hearing her sister’s college roommate share stories about her clinical experiences in speech therapy. Those stories sparked Susan’s interest, motivating her to explore a career where she could combine her desire to help others with her love of learning and language.

When beginning therapy with a new child, Susan focuses on building rapport and following the child’s lead. She believes children flourish when engaged in activities they truly enjoy, and she strives to make therapy sessions both fun and meaningful.

Susan’s favorite children’s book is No, David, No! by David Shannon, and as a child she loved the Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle series by Betty MacDonald. Outside of work, she enjoys practicing yoga, playing board games with her family, and spending time on her creative hobby—making candles two days each month.
