Meet Amy, a Speech-Language Pathologist with the McKibben & Monte team in Columbus. Amy earned her Master of Arts in Speech and Hearing Science from The Ohio State University and her Bachelor of Science in Hearing and Speech Science from Ohio University. She specializes in articulation therapy (including frontal and lateral lisps), phonology therapy, voice therapy, and language therapy for preschoolers with special needs.

For Amy, the most rewarding part of being a therapist is helping improve a child’s life through better communication. Her career choice was deeply inspired by her father, who was profoundly deaf. Watching his resilience in the face of communication challenges left a lasting impact and motivated Amy to dedicate her life to helping others find their voice.

When working with a child for the first time, Amy takes the time to understand their likes, dislikes, and motivators, shaping therapy sessions around what inspires them most. She often uses thematic, literature-based approaches, especially in language therapy, as she believes speech and language skills go hand in hand with reading success.

Amy’s favorite children’s book is Little Blue Truck by Alice Schertle, and as a child, she loved Are You My Mother? by P.D. Eastman. Outside of her professional life, Amy finds happiness in her children, Ian and Etta, as well as in her family, friends, and faith. She enjoys family game nights with pizza, cheering on her kids at sporting events, and lives by the advice: “Don’t sweat the small stuff.”

With her expertise, warmth, and personal connection to the importance of communication, Amy brings both skill and heart to every child she works with.
